Aurelia

Our story

Four chairs, on purpose.

Aurelia opened in 2019 above a record store on Ossington. We started with four chairs and a single rule: do not take work we cannot do well.

We opened Aurelia after years between Toronto and London. We wanted a salon that felt closer to a tailor's shop than a chain. The room was built for the appointment, not the volume. Natural light from the north, music kept low, and nobody rushing the consultation.

Six years later, we are still four chairs. We have turned down chair-rental requests, expansion offers, and a franchise pitch. The size is the point. Every stylist consults their own clients, signs off their own work, and trains with the rest of the team once a month.

Aurelia salon: colour station with natural light
The colour room, weekday morning. Light from the north window is the reason we work here.

How we work

Every appointment begins with a consultation. We do not put a client in a chair until we have agreed what we are doing and what it will cost. For new clients, that is a thirty-minute standalone visit. For returning clients, it is the first ten minutes of the appointment.

We share notes on every colour correction. If a client comes in with hair that one of us has not worked with before, we will flag it to the team before quoting. We would rather pass a booking to the right person than push it through the wrong chair.

Pricing is shown in ranges because the right number depends on length, density, and how long the chair is reserved. We always quote the appointment before we start. We do not run promotions, loyalty schemes, or first-visit discounts.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell extensions to clients we cannot maintain. If you are visiting Toronto and cannot return for move-ups, we will tell you that at consultation.
  • We do not push retail. Products are stocked because we use them on the floor. If a client asks what we used, we will tell them. We will not pitch.
  • We do not take walk-in colour. Every colour service requires a consultation first. This is the single rule we have not bent in six years.

If any of this sounds like the salon you are looking for, the consultation is the next step.
